The Cagney Pack - OUT NOW!
Here's what you get with the FREE Cagney Software Update

"Codenamed Cagney" is our 3rd and most ambitious software update yet!
It's a spectacular free addition to your Burnout Paradise experience, bringing a mountain of new gameplay.

Here's what you get:

3 New Freeburn Game Modes:

Road Rage

• Play with up to 8 players, split into two teams. One team must race through a series of Paradise City checkpoints. The other team must stop them.

• Cue incredible car chases, battling through the city, tons of voice communication as players co-ordinate their efforts.

Stunt Run (vs)

• Play with up to 8 players.  Pull stunts to score points - hit barriers, billboards and ramps; ace barrel rolls, flat spins and massive airtime to score big.

• Everybody competes to simultaneously reach the biggest total. Hit your rivals to kill their scores and gain multipliers.

Marked Man

• Play with up to 8 players.  An individual is selected at random and everyone else gangs up to find them and run them off the road.

• If you're the Marked Man, you score for reaching the end point in one piece.  Skilled players can score big by eliminating other players along the way.

70 New Freeburn Challenges

• "Freeburn" is Burnout's enduring contribution to online gameplay - absolutely seamless switching between online and offline play, through the Easydrive Menu System.

• "Cagney" adds a further 70 new Freeburn Challenges and introduces a timer and multiple-stages to each challenges for the first time

• Leaderboards log your best time as well as the players that also participated, so you can see who rules at any particular challenge

Vehicles
• Hunter Olympus
• The Nakamura Rai-jin Turbo RWD (rear-wheel-drive)

New Paint-jobs
• Rossolini Tempesta Dream
• We teamed up with our community to bring you 2 all-new paint-jobs for our favourite vehicles.  Check out the Oval Steel Racer and Inferno Hippie Van.

Ranked Race Changes
• We completely overhauled our ranked racing system to create a more honest racing scene.  here for the full breakdown!

Custom Soundtracks
• Custom Soundtrack support on PS3

Other high-priority fixes and updates

• If you're in a 3 or more player challenge and a player drops out, the remaining players can still complete it (subject to it being a challenge that can handle this!)
• "Previously" section on the search games list now displays Challenges, Today's Best and Freeburn game modes, making it loads easier to decide which game you want to join
• You can now view Leaderboards and Options in an online game
• You can now mute other online players in the show players screen
• You can now mute yourself if you have a PS3 Eye/Eye toy
• We've increased time-out for online races, and if all players complete the races within the timer, then you go straight to results
• The Airfield has been changed to help with the drivability of the area and make it a little easier to complete the hoop challenges
• Online cars now show damage - roll up to the start in a half-destroyed Hunter Cavalry and everyone else will see it!
• Added a stronger display message if you rule all of Todays Best
• The Easy Drive menu & Challenges page now loops from top to bottom
• Fixed the navigation system so that it takes into account the next check point in a race
• Fixed traffic not reappearing in Freeburn after a no-traffic race
• Fixed online races using Lawrence Road - it's been reporting finish distances with a little inaccuracy
• Revised 30+ car resets following crashes
• All new sound effects added for Easy Drive
• Driving backwards in Road Rage now ends the event as it does in Marked Man
• Option to invert camera axis for the look around camera on right stick
• Online player information made accurate on the instance a player goes through a checkpoint in races
• If you set VOIP mix to zero it is now saved correctly
• 1080i support for "almost HD" sets - PS3 only
• Improved the Standard Definition rendering on PS3
• New highlight to show the player in Today's Best
• Easy Drive fades out if it's unused for 20 seconds
• Boost chaining no longer possible by drifting in open areas

Hunter Olympus vs a variety of Burnout favourites

In the last of our Olympus test drives, we show just how this massive new vehicle compares with some of Paradise City's favourites – the Chrome Inferno van (nicknamed "the toaster"), the Montgomery Hawker and another heavyweight contender the Hunter Takedown 4x4.

You're in-car with IainA.

New Ranked Racing Levels - go live tomorrow!

Are you a hardcore racer who's been struggling to earn points?

Not any more!

We outlined the changes we were making to the Ranked Racing Levels on Friday 20th June.  (http://www.criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=288)

We've been working really hard to get these changes tested and ready for deployment and we're pleased to announce that tomorrow the servers will be updated to include these changes.

Apologies to those that read this post earlier today that said that these changes had already gone live, but it appears that during the server restart the changes hadn't taken. We will be taking the servers down again early tomorrow morning (UK time) and making the changes again.

We will post again once we are confident that the changes have indeed gone live.

We're currently looking at ‘Multiple Accounts’ and ‘Disconnection Rates’.

Expect an update soon!

Countdown to Cagney: crazysztof and friends say goodbye to the old airfield

It's 8 (...and a bit...) days to go until Codename: Cagney blazes onto your consoles with heaps of FREE game-changing content.

In addition to the new vehicles and game modes, there are a bunch of subtler changes to the existing game, designed to make the game play better. One set of such changes is to the Paradise Field Airfield - ironing out some of the bumps in the ground and removing some of the snags that could sometimes get in the way.

To commemorate this, crazystof (our competition winner who came up with the designs for the Oval Steel Racer and Carson Hippie Van - that will appear in the Codename: Cagney update) and his buddies decided to visit the airfield in black cars, to say one last goodbye to the old geometry:

If you want to know what the changes are to Paradise Field, here's Mark and Dave from the World Team to give you a quick tour:

Countdown to Cagney: Timed Challenges: Water Wings, with Hippies

This week, it's Freeburn Challenges Week.

We've already checked out two new Timed Challenges: 'Leaps of Faith' and 'The Back Cave'. Yesterday we dropped by the Airfield to see how that's changing Freeburn with the arrival of Cagney.

Today, we're bring you more on our Timed Challenges, by bringing you 'Water Wings' - a challenge that requires quite a bit of teamwork to complete against the clock. And what better way to do than in the new 'Hippie Van' - one of the two vehicle designs created by competition winner Krzysiek Ociepka back in April, that are also coming in the Cagney update.

Peace!

Freeburning in Cagney: Airfield Changes

Just two weeks to go until Codename: Cagney - the third FREE update for Burnout Paradise, hits your console.

14 Days to Cagney

This week, it's Freeburn Challenges Week, and today, we're taking a break from the Timed Challenge videos to see how the Cagney update affects Freeburn.

The Cagney update is not just about new content, but it's a chance to refine the game we all know and love. So, in response to many requests, here's Mark and Dave from the World Team talking about how they went back to the Airfield (one of our most popular areas of Paradise City for Freeburn Challenges) and tweaked it to make it just that bit more friendly for everyone:
