Downtown Showtime Showdown Latest - Time Extended!
This week's Downtown Showtime Showdown competition ends tomorrow. The winner gets to name a hotel featured on the island location that we'll be featuring as part of an software update codenamed Eastwood.
Current scores are nothing short of spectacular, with two fans that are due to visit us here at the studio leading the charge with a combined Showtime score for 4th Street, Harber St, Angus Wharf and King Avenue of $31,511,455,050.
Unless someone can put in a huge night of Showtime gameplay, it looks like there's already a clear winner. Hopefully, he won't want to use his PSN ID - we're not sure dbc9mx sounds much like a hotel.
We'll announce the winner tomorrow and bring you interviews with our two biggest Showtime fans here on the blog.

Downtown Showtime Showdown Latest - Time Extended!

Some staggering scores coming through for this competition with dbc9mx leading the way with a combined total of $11,714,518,880 damage, but Magnitude_V1 looks determined to reel him in over the weekend! Here's a picture he sent through!

Here are a couple of things we wanted to make clear before the weekend.
1. Historic high-scores will count. We're not pulling highest scores from just this week's telemetry…we're validating all-time highest scores. We'll accept photo evidence from anyone, but we'll still check the scores online.
2. We're also extending this contest by a week, since everyone's just now starting to get involved. If you fancy your chances against the current Showtime kings, get crashing now! We'll name the last remaining hotel on the new island location that will be part of the Eastwood downloadable content after the winner of this contest.
And by sheer conincidence, we'll be meeting up face-to-face with current leader dbc9mx next Friday – he's visiting Criterion Games. If he's still the champ then, I guess he can give us some feedback on the design of his hotel!

Downtown Showtime Showdown
Here's a follow-up to the Downtown Showtime Showdown that we set up this week.
We've created a location that people can go to add their scores for everyone to see.
Just hit this link and fill in your highest scores…we'll combine these and check against the game telemetry at the end of the week.
What we didn't realise when we set this up was just how huge the scores from Magnitude_V1 were already.
Magnitude_V1's coming in at a grand total of 2,245,274,400 combined for 4th Street, Angus Wharf, Harber St and King Ave.
That'll take some beating!

Get your name in lights on the new island!
Here's an under-construction hotel in our new Paradise City island location. If you're wondering what the significance of this building is, it's one of the last remaining unnamed buildings in the area.

We’re giving one lucky player the chance name this hotel!
If you win our "Downtown Showtime Showdown", we'll work with you to come up with the name for it. It can either be your name, your PSN ID or Gamertag or a name of your choice, as long as it's suitable to bring to the game.

We figured this was a great chance to highlight an often forgotten, but always great part of Burnout Paradise – Showtime! If you haven't experienced this yet, hit L1 and R1 on PS3 or both bumpers on 360 to start it off while in Freeburn then crash, crunch and slam your way through as much traffic as you can to earn massive damage scores.
The winner of the competition will be the player that can generate the largest accumulated Showtime score across four streets around the 4th Street Bridge. That's Angus Wharf, Harbour Street, King Avenue and 4th Street itself.
We'll post progress on this through the week and announce a winner in next Friday's Crash TV podcast.

New Burnout Island Location Revealed
Here's a great video from the world team. These guys worked on the incredible game world that you'll recognise now as Paradise City.
Since we're releasing images of our new island location, we thought it would be great to give a little insight into how the Paradise City mainland came together.
Here, one of our leads, JohnL, concentrates on a single, small area - the Fish Market in the South Docks (just off Manners Ave). You'll get to see how each of it's distinct components evolved through development.
We'll show more video on our upcoming new island location soon and start to reveal some of the special new gameplay we're working on just for that area.
In the meantime, here's how it's coming on!

The island is scheduled for release as part of our Eastwood software update.
Big thanks to John and the team for talking us through there. Look out for more soon.

The Other Side of the Bridge
A lot of forum chatter on this one!

It seems no-one believed we’d post this, but we’ll stand by what we said yesterday:
We want to bring you the news from Criterion Games as it happens.
We’re not wasting time on flashy edits, faked screenshots, or pre-rendered “game footage”.
This is live and direct – the beginning of the transformation of Paradise.
We’ll show you what we’re doing and we want to hear what you think.
This video shows the continuation of the Dust Storm’s journey out of Paradise City and into the first of our new locations. You’ll see incomplete graphics, but you get the idea.
And here’s a brief aerial reveal...
We’re looking forward to revealing the unique gameplay that’ll be found here. Keep checking back to the site for more or look closely at the environment – the clues are right there!
