Just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to each and every member of the Burnout team, past, present and future.
The one thing that has consistently impressed me about Burnout is not the graphics, gameplay, sound, etc. It's how you've pulled it all together. Any software involves compromises, and I can only imagine the hundreds if not thousands of decisions you've had to make over the years.
I remember my first experience with Burnout 2, and thinking, "These guys made every decision correctlythis game is perfect."
Anyhow, I just want to say thanks to everyone involved at every levelprogrammer, art person, sound, level design, etc. Thanks to all of you.
And though I am just one person, I still talk up Burnout every time I'm in a store near the game sectiontelling would be customers and often times employees, telling friends they HAVE to get Burnout...
I don't know if you hear this a lot, but I'll take Burnout over Halo any day!
I wish all of you every bit of successyou certainly deserve it.
Jack F,
Loyal Burnout Series Fan!
P.S. If you want an amusing user story to tell at your next meetingI have an exercise bike in front of the TVdon't know if anyone has ever tried this, but when you're peddling a bike and playing Burnout (wireless controller of course!) you tend to pedal your behind off! Especially if you're trying to pass a car! I've put over 1000 miles on that exercise bike playing various versions of Burnout!
Dear Jack F,
Thanks for emailing us.
Glad to hear you enjoy Burnout 2. We still play it to this day. In fact we were looking at it yesterday running on our NTSC PS3 to check it all works properly. (To force true progressive scan mode, make sure the USB cable is connected in order to hold down X and Triangle to select 480p.)
If you're a B2 fan, make sure you check out Burnout Dominatorit's a cool nod back to some of the B2 mechanics.
Thanks for wishing us success.

BURNING FOR BLACK
First off, WOW! I just purchased a PS3 and after looking at the current game selection I chose your PS2 title of BLACK. Being in the gaming industry I fully appreciate the resources and constraints put upon everyone involved in the Software Development Life Cycle but I must strongly encourage your decision makers to reallocate resources or obtain new ones and START WORKING ON BLACK 2!!!!!! I, too, have spent countless hours playing, winning, and losing at BLACK and must tell you that this is the ONLY console game that keeps me off my Uber Dual Core 8800 GTX Gaming Box!
You have a winning combination here...Please, at least give me some hope that my PS3 purchase was not in vain and I will see more BLACK with more weapons, (as a Mature gamer) I wouldn't mind some realistic external ballistic consequences on my targets either...
Keep it up, hurry up and Burn up on Burnout and get back to giving me my gun PRON!!!!!!!!!!!
David Knippelmier
Dear David,
Thanks for writing to us.
Glad to hear you enjoyed playing BLACK, we certainly enjoyed making it.
Maybe sometime in the future we might make a sequel. But we have nothing announce at this time.

STUCK ON WHITE MOUNTAIN
Hey, I just want to say Burnout has been my favorite Racing game. Burnout Revenge was awesome. The only thing is, I can never get 10 million on White Mountain/Traffic Attack. That is, on the Challenge Sheet. It is impossible. But I know Burnout 5 will crush every racing game out there. I know the graphics will be so real that it will hurt my eyes.
P.S. To everyone at Criterion Gamesyou rule. I will keep being a loyal fan of the Burnout franchise. Thank you for making racing games that don't suck! One day I would love to meet everyone at Criterion Games. That is my dream!
BURNOUT RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Russell
Dear Russell,
Thanks for writing in.
We're always glad to hear from people who enjoy the games as much as we do. To complete the challenge sheet, remember to boost whenever you can, choose a fast car, and do as many trick shots as you can. Money increases per lap so there is a balance to reach between driving fast and checking everything.

CRASH QUERY
I am a huge fan of Burnout: Revenge. It was the first game I got for the Xbox 360 and I play it very often. I've got most of the Xbox 360 achievements, but there's just one I have a question about.
The Crash achievement, "Crash Addict," says that you have to win 40 crash events. Does this mean you have to win 40 ENTIRE crash events or just 40 rounds of Crash?
I can't wait to get Burnout 5.
Dear KP,
To unlock this achievement you have to win in forty rounds of Crash.
Glad to hear you are looking forward to the new Burnout.

SPEED OF SOUND
Dear Criterion,
I have just read the Nick Channon interview on IGN and am very pleased to learn that the new Burnout Dominator game will go back to its roots with chained boosts from Point of Impact. I have to say I own all the Burnout games released so far (not including X360), and although I liked the takedowns from the later games, Point of Impact was by far my favorite game. It just felt so balanced; it had just the right mixture for boosting, dodging, driving dangerously etc. The other thing that I liked about Point of Impact, and this is my main reason for writing, is the boost music effect. I thought that maybe you could bring back the way the music changed as you hit the boostit went slightly faster (or louder? or both?). If you could at least take that into consideration from a massive Criterion fan, who has followed all your work, it would be cool.
Thanks for your time.
Arslan
Ps: can we expect the pursuit mode from Burnout 2 to return in Burnout Dominator?
Dear Arslan.
Thanks for writing in. Yet another letter from a die hard Burnout 2 fan.
We hear what you are saying about the music, we were talking about this just yesterday.
We hope you like the new game.

ONCE YOU GET BLACK...
First of all, I would like to applaud you for such a great job!
I started with Halo2, SWAT, 007 series, Killzone, then played BLACK. It was wise that I finished those games before I started BLACK. And I played Urban Chaos and Fear afterwards. My friend Rick used to joke, "Once you get BLACK, you never go back". Unfortunately he is right. :-).
We are so addicted to it, and there is no other game out there that can make us happy. We have introduced this game to so many people, and they all loved it at first sight.
You have to make another one (BLACK 2), or I can hunt you down with a M16 (with a grenade launcher).
Just kidding...
Thanks again for developing such a great game!
Shuai
Dear Shuai,
Thanks for writing in.
Glad to hear you liked the game. If you're a fan of the TV show "24" look out for a scene where BLACK is playing in the background in the latest season. Also look out for Marty Papazian, who played Jack Kellar in the Black cutscenes, returning to the show as Master Torturer Agent Burke. If you hunt us down with your M16, we'll send Agent Burke after you. His silver suitcase beats your rifle.

WORTH THE WAIT
Criterion,
First off, I have to say Burnout Revenge is the best racing game I have ever played! I know it won't be for long though because Burnout 5 will undoubtedly be so much better. Originally racing games were not my favorite genre because they felt like you weren't really playing them but just watching and turning and not much else. Burnout Revenge was the first game that I have ever played that gave such an intense feeling of speed and destruction.
I own it for the 360 and intend to get Burnout 5 for the 360 as well in case you were curious. I have to say that a game like Burnout doesn't need rumble to be immersive but I definitely want it if given the choice, which is partly why I'm getting it for the 360. The other part is that games seem to play better on the 360 and don't have problems in which frame rates drop really low and the game looks slow like in Tony Hawk's Project 8 and a few other games. I can hardly wait to buy Burnout 5 in the spring which seems like it's just not close enough.(my brother Myles is also a big fan of Burnout Revenge but he doesn't want to get excited about it 'till the game comes out.)
Now for my question. I was wondering if gamestop.com and ebgames.com have an accurate release date of 5/1/2007 for Burnout 5. If you can't answer that then tell me why I'm not playing it now. I was thinking about it and it's probably one of these two options. 1. You're under staffed. Criterion staff clearly have the skill but do they have enough people working to get it done sooner? 2. You're only putting in the standard 12hr work days instead of the recommended 20hrs.
Keep up the great games. I'm really looking forward to the sequel to one of my favorite games. I'd also like to say thanks because now there's another Burnout game I can own more n00bs on.
Good Luck!
James
Dear James,
The release date of the game is wrong according to those retail sites. But, the game will be released this year.

CRASH ADDICT
I want to first start by saying that Burnout Revenge for 360 was actually the first game I had played in the series. And I'm totally hooked. The racing aspect is fun but the Crashes is where I'm addicted. I have almost every crash ranked in the top 100 offline sores with a few of them in the top 10. My question and comment is two fold: Why is the target score for Grand Master Crash only 4 million. Most of my crash buddies think this was supposed to be 14 million and it was a mistake that was never fixed or caught.
The only thing that I really hope changes is that crash party scores are kept separated from crash tour scores. Nothing worse than to hit a high score in crash party but never to see it again because you only track crash tour scores online. Keep up the great work and I can't wait for Burnout 5.
Addicted4Life
Stuman
Dear Stuman,
Your buddies are incorrect. We never set anything to be ridiculously high. As all true players know, it's not about the score; it's about how FAR BEYOND the score you can go.

KILLER TUNES
Hey guys,
You all totally made a killer game with Black. I was wondering if the soundtrack by Tilton and Giacchino is commercially avaiable for purchase.
Regards,
Jay
It is, and you can purchase it here via iTunes. You can also see a special performance of the BLACK theme by the Toronto Orchestra here.
