TAKEDOWN: YOUR GENES

Hi Criterion,

Firstly, great to hear your doing Burnout 5, really can't wait to hear more on the matter, and well done on what you have achieved so far.

My main question is, who was the person or people that came up with the concept of a 'Takedown' and how exactly did it come about? Burnout would definitely not be as it is now without takedowns.

Also, who of the staff has the biggest single event total from the original Road Rage in Burnout 3: Takedown, and what is that total?

Regards

~Icey D~

Dear Mr. “D”,

Thanks for emailing us.

You should be excited about the new game. We know we are!

Regarding the amazing Burnout 3 Takedown, we will be answering your question in a month or so when we get around to telling the incredible story regarding the development of the game.

NINTENTIONS

Hi,

I was just wondering if you're going to develop anything on Nintendo hardware again? I know you stated in your last mailbag that the last time you developed for it was Burnout 2 (which was done very, very well by the way - my friends and I have clocked in over 50 hours according to the time, minus the amount of restarts we did to try and get the fastest times), were you trying to insinuate you wouldn't develop for a Nintendo machine again? There are many people who would like to see your games on a Nintendo home console again.

Burnout's name was tarnished with the release of Legends of the DS. I'm not sure if you had any say in it or not, but I'd rather the game wasn't even released on the platform instead... it's that bad. I spent £4 on it (I have to play every Burnout!), and I can honestly say it wasn't even worth that price. Moving on, one small request for Burnout 5: please, please, please allow us to turn off the traffic checking feature if you include it. I prefer having to avoid cars... it somehow feels more exhilarating.

Good luck with Burnout 5, I look forward to it!

Zak

Dear Zak,

Thanks for the wishing us well on B5. We are very busy with it right now.

Currently we are not developing for Nintendo hardware, but stay tuned as you never know when this may change.

We like checking traffic, so we won't let you turn it off necessarily. That said, we are confident you will like the new game. You’ll just have to wait and see.

The Burnout Team.

JUST CHECKING

Please take out traffic checking in Burnout 5 - or at least make it an option. Although an excellent game, Revenge lacked the intensity of Takedown because the traffic checking made it too easy and highly unrealistic. Keep on making quality games!

Bk

Dear Mr Bk,

You must be a friend of Zak’s (see above).

If you found Revenge too easy, surely you are the type of gamer who has achieved the maximum perfect gamerscore of 1000. Not many people seem to have done this yet.

If you have done this, please mail us with the email heading “I’ve got 1000” and we’ll immortalize you in our forthcoming Burnout Revenge 360 Hall of Fame.

You are much too hung up on Traffic Checking. Are you sure you have played the game all the way through?

FROM HAWAII TO PLUTO

Aloha Guys,

I've played Burnout since 3 and I think it's by far the best racing game EVER. I do have a couple of questions.

When we play Burnout 3 on the 360, we get some funky reddish posterization of the colors, like rays, especially when it's sunset or night. Is it just us? Just wondering. Should we change the 360 or TV settings? And yes, it happens only on B3.

We got over it though and started to play the game all over again. Ahhh! The good old days. Looking forward to having a Euro again.

Also, the servers at EA kind of suck... I have had so many disconnects/freezes and my rank goes to the moon, or even Pluto sometimes...

I don't really care about the rank, but to jump from a couple of 100's to 10,000, OUCHY! Heard they could be as many as 8 racers in a room? Any plans of improving the servers for B5?

Mahalo for making such GREAT games!

Wicked Wahine - Hawaii :)

Dear Mr. “Wahine”,

Aloha – (we have the Aloha Spirit here on the Burnout Team – please drink a No Ka Oi smoothie for us!)

I can tell you that our experiences of driving around North Maui (the most dangerous single track road we’ve ever seen) and some drifting on the road to Hana inspired some of Burnout Revenge!

We know the problem you are seeing on B3 back-compat. We have seen this also. It’s a small problem and we have spoken to our friends at Microsoft about it. We are also playing through the game again, so watch out for us online.

We are always working and fixing problems as they occur.

Regarding rank, there are so many people playing rank is an ever changing thing. Some of our ranks have been known to orbit Pluto also.

COURSE FISHING

Is there any reason why there haven’t been any new courses for Burnout revenge? There are a bunch of people that I play with every night that really would like to see some.

I have put way over 600 hours into the Burnout series, which include Burnout 2, 3, Revenge for both Xbox and the 360, PSP and DS.

If you don’t make the maps, I will still play the game. We all would love to see some new ones though.

Also, I know Burnout 5 will be a hit. Don’t worry about the critics. If it’s from you guys it will be good!

PS - How often do you reset the rankings?

Dear Justen,

Thanks for mailing.

Some answers:

1. We mentioned this last week. There is no more downloadable content to come for Burnout Revenge. It was not something we planned at the beginning of the game.

2. Thanks for the support- we hope you like the next game from us.

3. A reset usually happens once a month. Not sure whether this is all ranking though. We’ll have to check.

CAR SCORES

Hi.

I've played a couple of hundred hours of Burnout Revenge on the Xbox 360. It's a great game. But I have one request for Burnout 5 that I don't like in Revenge. Crash Tour and Crash Party needs separate high score lists.

Now everything goes into one high score, and it can be hard to know if that was archived in a Crash Tour or Crash Party.

Everything else is very good. Keep up the good work. I will definitely buy Burnout 5 when it comes out.

Best regards,

Frank Eivind Rundholt, Norway

Dear Frank,

Thanks for playing.

Thanks for the comment. Keep rubbing your copy of the game. Maybe one day your Burnout wish may be granted.

DISCONNECTED

I play Burnout Revenge on the 360 and two of my friends can never connect to the same game. They have tried resetting routers, going direct from modem and it still doesn't work.

Any ideas? It's only on Burnout.

JOTU

Dear “JOTY”

Thanks for mailing.

In a few weeks, we plan of putting up a feature all about online troubleshooting and explaining some of the most popular issues that users can experience.

It’s usually a strict or moderate firewall issue. If one person in the lobby has this, it can cause problems for others trying to connect.

Hopefully our forthcoming feature will assist you.

THE PHANTOM TAKEDOWN

Hey Criterion!

Just want to say I love Burnout Revenge and even more so online.

Its one of my only games for the 360 because well...I LOVE IT! Even more the online racing, although when you are racing online, you sometimes crash without help of the other racers and they get a takedown on you (which I've had). Will that be improved in the new game, that’s if you still have the takedown feature in Burnout 5.

Oh, and one more thing, me and some friends were talking about the tracks (this was mentioned before somewhere) and we think it would be nice if you could download extra tracks for online use only (like some other games have).

But enough of the problems and wishes, thumbs up to you guys and keep up the good work!

Chris.

Dear Chris,

Thanks for mailing.

Glad to hear you like the game. We know we do.

What is most likely happening is that you are being hit by a flying traffic car that was checked by another racer. There is always a lot happening in an online race.

We know of no issues where it happens by mistake. It is always as a result of someone hitting someone.
