CRASH ANALYSIS

You have made the most addictive mode ever in a video game, CRASH! Don't listen to the others, I am the #1 Burnout fan. I have played all 11 versions of the game on all 4 consoles & still can’t get enough. My question is about Burnout 2, which started it all for crashing. Was the jackknife explosion glitch, which sends semi trucks flying and buses spinning for hundreds of millions in damage, built into the game or is it just an anomaly? Thank you very much for Crash mode. I just wish I could get back the thousands of hours I have dedicated to playing it. Burnout 5 will wow us all. I have no doubts in Criterion making the best racing/crashing game the video world has ever seen. Crash on.

Dear Mr "Drew2244werd"

Thanks for mailing.

The glitch you describe is exactly that. Just a glitch. Every game has them in some shape or form.

We hope you will like the new game. It will certainly have a very different crashing experience to what you have experienced before.

QUEST FOR BURNOUT

My question is about Burnout 2: Point of Impact. Is it still out there to buy, or was it pulled off the shelf?

Kellynicole

Dear Kellynicole,

The glorious Burnout 2: Point of Impact is still pretty easy to find on Playstation 2. The original version was published by the now defunct Acclaim Entertainment and it was re-published by Electronic Arts. So, two versions out there for you to collect.

Xbox and Gamecube versions are pretty hard to find these days.

MISSED CONNECTIONS

Hi,

I just bought a 360 and Burnout Revenge. When playing on Live, I most often get an error message saying that I was unable to connect to the other players. But then, sometimes, everything works just fine.

And before I get the error message I can both hear and talk to the other players in the room, but still I get the error message and am kicked out of the room.

It's quite annoying (to say the least) after spending so much money to play Burnout online. :) Do you have any ideas what might be wrong?

The first couple of times I was thinking my router might be incorrectly set up, but as it works just fine every 20th time, it's obviously something else.

Also, when I look at the scoreboards on Live, I never have any recorded scores. Not even for "Offline crash" or anything. Tracks and courses I have played hundreds of times, and where my score should have been registered.

What am I doing wrong?

Regards, Eirik

Dear Eirik,

You are not doing anything wrong. The error you describe occurs when one of the other players you are trying to connect with has a strict NAT. This is quite a common problem on Xbox Live.

We are in the process of writing a detailed online FAQ which should provide insight to other players who have these problems.

BURNOUT LEGACY

I have been playing the Burnout games from the beginning. I have played Burnout 3 and Revenge every night of the week for the past 3.5 yrs with the same group of friends. Our ages range from 65 to 30 yrs old; I’m 43. It’s the only game of its kind, there is nothing that can compete with these games, so please don’t screw up a legend of a game like Burnout. An open world doesn’t sound like its going to be much fun, especially if it’s anything like Test Drive Unlimited open world. How many players will be able to race against each other on Live in the new Burnout 5 in a single race? Nothing matters in the game accept the one-of-a-kind great racing you have created in the past.

Please continue the legend & legacy!

Dear Greg,

Glad to hear you have played them all.

I guess you just have to trust us. We are the development team, and most of us have been here since the original game. We know Burnout better than anyone else on the planet. Open world may not always be fun in other games, but remember, this is Burnout we are talking about.

The legend will continue. Don’t worry!

SINGING OUR PRAISES

HI Criterion...

I just wanted to drop a line to your mailbag.

Firstly I would just like to say I have really enjoyed playing the Burnout series from Burnout, till now (Revenge) clocking 3,000+ hours between them with Burnout 3 being my all time favourite. I have been playing games for many years and I would also have to say that this series is one of the most addictive ones I have played – what do you guys put in the code? ;)

Reading about the upcoming Burnout 5 reduced my grimacing face to a big grin...especially the fact that you're bringing back a boost bar similar to the Point of Impact boost chains (driving under the influence of boost). :)

Some of the pics of cars in the new game look great. I like the direction you're going in, making the cars look more realistic whilst still being unlicensed cars...

One other thing, I was wondering what direction you are going to take in regards to the Burnout community. As it stands, the current community is one of the best on Xbox Live, but I feel there is a lack of leagues. I feel the elite players are left in the dark, so to speak, because of the speed handicaps. Many times I have been racing flawlessly only to crash on the last lap because I’m being speed handicapped and the car is going so slow that I crash, and having the person behind me that has crashed multiple times pass me with a belly full of pity boost. :( Maybe you could have a setting that gets rid of any handicaps or rubberbands....Anyway just some food for thought. I eagerly await Burnout 5, the next level of savage automobile carnage, but until then, will continue to Burn boost in Revenge. Cheers and thanks for developing such an awesome game.

I'll leave you with this: Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the girls are pretty. Oh won't you please take me home, yeahhhhh!

Boost will always flow through the veins of Burnout legends!

Dear Mr. “xX HighRiSk Xx”,

Thanks for your mail.

It sounds like you have an “appetite for destruction” too. Which is always good to hear.

We’re not talking about what we’re doing online with the new game yet, so you’ll just have to wait and see.

BUMPER CARS

I just read online that Forza 2's damage physics will allow for things like bumpers falling unto the track, staying there, and actually causing other wrecks and such.

You guys should "me too" that!

D Roberts

Dear Mr Roberts,

We're big Forza fans too and we're looking forward to the new game.

Being the Burnout Team, we're not really "me too" kind of guys-we like to forge our own path.

It's everyone else following us!

Just give us a shout when they start putting Crashbreakers in the game to liven things up a bit, will you!

CHECKING THE RULES

Hi,

I am new to playing Burnout. I have been playing Burnout Revenge with an Xbox 360, mainly online. What causes you to crash into some vehicles when you traffic check them from behind? Is this an intentional design of the game? Nobody seems to know when I ask other players online. Burnout Revenge is an awesome game—keep up the good work. It’s the best console game I’ve ever played!!!

Thanks,
Jon Cottom

Dear Jon,

You can traffic check all vehicles traveling the same way as you. However, you cannot check large vehicles such as semi’s ("lorries" for you Europeans) or buses. These vehicles can be clearly identified as they are always flashing their hazard lights screaming out, "don’t hit me!"

Glad to hear you enjoy the game.
