THREE WISHES

I'll start by saying "What a great game". I have played them all and wow. I'm 35 and have logged over 4000 hours on this game alone between the Xbox and now the 360. My biggest complaints of the game are a simple 3. I'm an elite crasher and recognized as such by many online.

  1. The biggest problem is all one rank for racers and crashers—please separate the 2 again in the next one, because getting lagged out and disconnected makes it ridiculous to even try to be ranked and probably the most important thing to crashers is their rank.

  2. The stupid handicap system on the game—it's not fair to the people that keep you in business buying your game and mastering it. We screw up enough on our own—we don't need to be handicapped.

  3. And finally this crap of not being able to have private ranked rooms and be able to invite our friends. Why have a friends list if we can't invite who we want into our created room? That just doesn't make sense. If you guys truly make games for the gaming community please take a hard look at these problems that are constantly brought up on a daily basis in elite rooms that take forever to fill and start because we can't invite anyone.

Anyway, this is a good game and I hope the next to be as good, if not better. Thank you for your time.

Rus

Dear Rus,

Thanks for taking the time to mail us.

  1. We hear what you say. But to us, this was the best solution at the time we made the game. We know that some players prefer race and not Crash and vice versa. But, to us, an elite Burnout player is one who is skilled at both parts of the game.

  2. The handicap system is not stupid.

  3. What you are describing is a feature defined by Microsoft and the Xbox Live service. This is the same for all Xbox Live games.

IT'LL BE WORTH IT

Hi Criterion team.

You guys have done an awesome job of making the Burnout series so addictive—I know, because I'm one of the addicted.

But I'm sure I'm not just speaking for myself because there are a lot more out there wondering if you've stopped making Burnout for Xbox and this makes me cry.

I don't really want to fork out big bucks to afford an Xbox360 just in order to play one game (even when it will be the best game yet) because I just can't do it. Please tell me you will make copies for Xbox (and PS2—my bro loves it too). If not, well, you may lose Heaps And Heaps of hardcore fans.

Cheers.

Secret fan.

Or Matthew.

Dear Matthew,

Glad to hear you like our game.

So, the world of videogames is a fast-moving and ever changing business. New consoles are always appearing. Here at Criterion we are on the cutting edge.

We are no longer developing for the original Xbox.

So, start saving that for that Xbox 360 or Playstation3.

SAVE ME

I have Burnout 2 Gamecube and I have experienced that at least in the Crash mode that it fails to save data when it tries to autosave. It appears to save races but fails often on crashes.  It randomly works on retry, but mostly it does not.  I'm not a frequent player so I haven't been bothered by it till now since my daughter and I are using it more frequently, it is a great game. I'm using a Nyko memory card that has had no problems with other saved games. Is this a bug or some system problem. I tried to contact Acclaim but I have had no luck there.

Thanks,
Kurt

Dear Kurt,

It sounds as if you have a corrupted game save. This can happen, especially with third party memory cards. It is not a bug or system problem.

WRONG NUMBER

Hi,

Please can you send me your telephone number?

Thanks, Hannah

Dear Hannah,

We live in an office that is far, far away. We do not have any telephones!

Wii QUERY

Just curious, what do you guys think of the Wii? And are there any plans for Wii games in the future?

Thanks, Tom

Dear Tom,

We like the Wii and Nintendo hardware in general. It looks like it will be a fun machine.

We haven't made any Wii announcements yet.

RANKINGS RESET

KONNICHIWA.(Nice to meet you.)

I am a Japanese player of the Burnout.

There are some courses where my fastest lap has disappeared from the ranking. The Revenge of XBOX360.

My companion is embarrassed because of the same phenomenon, too.

Do you know the occurrence of this event? Is the cause understood? Does it where it disappears revive? We will wait for the answer.

I am looking forward to five very much.

Firewood of Japan

Dear Mr. Firewood,

The Burnout world rankings do get reset from time to time. This may explain why your score has disappeared.

Hopefully this will motivate you to set another time on our scoreboard which is even faster.

We hope that your companion is no longer embarrassed about this strange phenomenon.

THEM'S THE RULES

I am a huge fan of Burnout; I own all the games and love them greatly. I'm the kind of person who can't help but offer my constructive opinions to let others know what improvements I'd like to see. I have sent numerous letters (yes, physical, written, postmarked letters...not email) to the address listed on your site. I've never known if Criterion has read my ideas until today.

Recently, I sent in a letter detailing my thoughts and praises for the development team only to have it opened and returned with a curt letter saying "We don't read unsolicited mail. Therefore, we have not read your letter. Thanks, Criterion Games."

This is an insult to me and I feel as though my loyalty means nothing. I took the time, effort, and money to write and mail a professional, courteous letter only to be slapped in the face. I'm ashamed I even wasted my time. I'm not even sure I will buy Burnout 5 because of this. However, to learn from my mistake, what is the proper channel for fanmail? I don't want others to be insulted in the same manner as I.

So long and thanks for all the fish,
David

Dear David,

Please don't feel insulted. Just like any other company, we are protective of our work and also we must protect ourselves.

If you send your ideas for a new Star Wars movie to George Lucas, or sent some lyrics to Madonna you would most likely have your work sent straight back to you. Just like us, these people are not legally allowed to accept unsolicited work.

The proper channel for fanmail is right here on this website.

But you did not send us fanmail—you sent us a long and detailed list of things YOU would like to see in Burnout 5. We just cannot accept game ideas, scripts, or artwork.

And we're not alone, as you can see on one of our other favorite sites put up by the guys up at Bizarre Creations.
