Redline Racer Windows XP Patch Instructions The first thing to do is to ensure that you are using a full install of the game rather than a minimum install (as the patch will only work with a fully installed version). Once this has been checked, copy the file 'rlr_D3d.exe' (included with this mail) into the games installation folder (you should be asked if you are sure you wish to overwrite the existing file at this point, answer yes to complete the process). The next task is to alter the Compatibility settings of the program. To do this (1) Right click the 'rlr_D3d.exe' file that was just copied over, and a drop down menu will appear from which Properties needs to be selected. (2) This will then make a new window appear which along the top has three tabs, the first is called General, the second is Shortcut and the final is Compatibility. Select Compatibility. (3) On the Compatibility page, in the top section of the window there is a small box entitled Compatibility mode. In this box there is a small check box with the text "Run this program in Compatibility mode for:" if this box is not ticked then do so now by left clicking the mouse in the small check box. (4) Below the check box there should now be a drop down box that can be opened by clicking on the tab on the right hand side. This will drop down a menu from which the 'Windows 98 / Windows ME' entry should be selected. (5) Click Apply then click OK to save the changes. In order to run the game, the following steps must now be taken (1) Start the game as normal, and you will probably be met with a black, empty Window (the Ubisoft logo SFX should be heard playing at this point). (2) Minimise the game at this point by pressing ALT/TAB. Your should now be returned to the Windows desktop. (3) Immediately restore the game either by clicking on the 'Redline' program in the Windows Taskbar or by using ALT/TAB again. (4) The game should now run correctly. Although the initial Ubisoft logo will not appear, the display should become visible once the Criterion Logo plays.
