We Are Criterion

Our story began 1996 as a small studio of passionate people committed to delivering great games.

Players know us for adrenaline-fuelled racing in Burnout™, Need for Speed™, for bold innovations like Rogue One™: X-Wing VR Mission and contributions to STAR WARSBattlefrontII. Today, we bring that same mindset to Battlefield™; innovation, technical excellence, and bold design. We are building the next Battlefield experience with the same drive that shaped our legacy.

Success for us means we have created a game that keeps our players at the edge of their seat, we want them to know that playing a Criterion game means they will be in for a ride - while always making sure we give them the unexpected.

The Way We Roll

We operate in a hybrid setup designed to protect focus time while keeping collaboration strong across disciplines and studios. With three days in the office - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays - for collaborative work and in person meetings, and two days at home - Mondays and Fridays - for deep focus, our teams have the flexibility to work from home and in the office.

We move as one

We believe great games come from teams who come to work as themselves, speak up, defy expectations, and bring their full selves to the studio. For us, “care” isn’t a buzz word, it’s the conditions that let people do the best work of their careers.

We also try to show up beyond the studio - supporting underrepresented talent locally and investing in the communities we’re part of. Partnering with our EA Social Impact team, we find local causes that we as a studio genuinely care about. Recent examples of this includes welcoming Big Leaf Foundation to our studio for a Playday, joining the One Special Walk with Special Effect, and sponsoring Black Tech Fest to find future game developers.

We put care into action through:

  • Having senior leaders actively sponsor and stay accountable for local inclusion initiatives

  • Partnering with organisations and programmes that widen access into game development

  • Building a psychologically safe culture for everyone

Built for any mission

We’re a talented team of people who live and breathe games; from table top to video games. You’ll find us playing, creating, breathing, and talking games. In fact, gaming is so important to us that we purposefully have a chunk of time set aside to play our games every day!

We also make sure to take the time to relax and get to know each other better. Through our studio events, after work, or local celebrations there are always opportunities to meet new people.

“Criterion is a special mix of technical mastery and dedicated, passionate developers. I'm proud to have been part of Criterion's long history from Burnout 3 to Battlefield 6, and beyond”

Gavin Rouse, Game Technical Lead

“You've got to love what you're doing, and those you're working with.  Criterion makes that easy.”
